BEIJING — China appreciated Russian President Vladimir Putin’s praise for China’s achievements in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic and pledged to promote the building of a community of global health for humanity, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said on Wednesday.
“China appreciates President Putin’s positive comment on China’s achievements in fighting the pandemic,” said Zhao, adding that China has made major strategic achievements in the fight against COVID-19.
Zhao said China and Russia have been working hand in hand to help each other, sparing no effort in providing assistance and sharing experience. The two countries have also joined forces to fight against the “political virus.” Such anti-pandemic cooperation is exemplary to the world.

ISLAMABAD — Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to visit Afghanistan on Thursday on the invitation of Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, for talks on bilateral relations and the Afghan peace process, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said on Wednesday.
This is Khan’s first visit to Afghanistan since assuming office in 2018, the foreign ministry said in a statement, adding that the prime minister’s delegation will comprise the foreign minister and other senior officials.
“The Prime Minister’s program includes tete-e-tete with President Ashraf Ghani, delegation-level talks, and joint press stake-out. The focus would be on further deepening the fraternal bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Afghan peace process, and regional economic development and connectivity,” the statement said.

BEIJING — China and Russia on Tuesday reviewed their investment cooperation progress and agreed to make efforts to overcome the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and facilitate the resumption of work and production in bilateral investment cooperation to yield more practical achievements.
The agreement was made at the seventh meeting of the China-Russia Investment Cooperation Committee co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng and Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov.
Han pointed out that the two sides should seize the new opportunities and encourage enterprises from the two countries to conduct cooperation in fields of digital economy and anti-pandemic fight.
Han called on the two countries to take the opportunity of the China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation to strengthen investment cooperation in areas including high-tech, information and communication, and biosecurity.

KINSHASA — The Democratic Republic of Congo announced the end of the country’s latest Ebola epidemic on Wednesday, after the outbreak in the past five months had killed 55 people.
“I am happy to solemnly declare the end of the 11th epidemic of the Ebola virus in Equateur Province,” Health Minister Eteni Longondo said.
